Sedona Summer Day 1 & 2: Hot Chocolate & Legos
Friday, June 28th, was our travel day. We got caught in some Phoenix traffic, but we had a trusty audiobook to distract us. Owen requested Doctor Doolittle. Thank goodness for Hoopla! We arrived around 4:30pm, I bought groceries, made dinner, we went to the pool and watched plenty of cable tv to unwind. We don’t have cable at home, so it’s a treat for us to watch Discovery, History, Food Network, HGTV and Cartoon Network. Simple pleasures!
On Saturday morning we woke up to these beautiful red rocks!
The night before, the boys had discovered hot cocoa at the rec center. They had to have their fix every day of the trip. This is a picture of them walking through the ravine on their way to the cocoa.
I get pretty stressed out on “vacation”, so I stayed back at the room to watch Trisha Yearwood grill pineapple. Owen brought me back my own hot chocolate and watched the rest of the show with me. Dave, Luke, and Gid stayed back to play a game of pool.
The hamster made the trip with us. Dave read in the hotel welcome packet that if any hidden pets were discovered in the rooms it would be a $200 fine and we’d have to get rid of the animal immediately. We had to be veeeery careful that room service didn’t find any trace of him or we’d have to release him into the Sedona mountains!
After an afternoon swim I got FRIED. Mama needed aloe vera. So we drove 30 minutes to Cottonwood to visit WALMART! Party people! It was the main attraction of our trip!
Dave wanted to buy each of the boys a lego set to keep them busy… because 7 days in a hotel room can get interesting. And because he’s the best dad.
The views, as always, were stunning.
I’d say he made the right call. Father knows best! They played with their legos the entire trip. Owen got a set that builds 3 different vehicles (all for the hamster to ride in, of course). Luke got Captain America’s motorcycle which was awesome. Gideon got Thor with the coolest blue lightning sword ever. That actually is still in Sedona because he dropped the sword the day before we left and it was never found.
Luke brings his sketch book almost everywhere (I love it!) and his homemade Smash Cards. It’s a game that he and his friend Dylan made up at Camp Geronimo a few weeks ago. He worked really hard on them! When we played it as a family things got pretty ‘smashed’ up!
We finished most evenings staying up late listening to Dave read Peter Pan.
