Day 4: Zoo, Beach, & Forged in Fire

Started the day with an early morning run to Walmart before the boys woke up. I bought lunch and snack foods and few towels to take to the beach. And cold/flu medicine that helped so much! Why did i wait 4 days to buy something?!?

After breakfast we spent the morning at the San Diego Zoo. It's the most tropical, lush zoo we've ever been too. We rode the tour bus around the whole park. Saw lots of animals without having to walk was the greatest thing ever. :)
Gideon was talking to the birds in the aviary.

When the chips are all gone.
The boys still had the giggles from the night before.

We had a picnic lunch at an empty beach playground. We realized it was empty because there were quite a few harmless homeless folks around the park, but only one was talking to himself. He sounded like the Nutty Professor. We decided it might be best to head back over to Mission Beach.

Owen dropped his peanut butter sandwich in the water and made instant friends with the seagulls. Then they started following Gid around.
Back over to Mission Beach we went to spend a few hours. We rented a boogie board and sand umbrella. They made all the difference! I love that our boys love the water so much! Luke especially couldn't get enough of riding the board!
Gid and Owen took lots of breaks to warm up in the sun. The day was much cooler than previous beach visits, so their jaws were getting pretty shaky.

All the boys on the beach made friends. One of their dads found a hermit crab. When they put the crab down he disappeared into the sand and they couldn't find him again.

Luke was so loud with his whoops and yee-haws on the board! The whole beach could hear him.
 Owen's turn.
Gid needed Dad to take him out into the bigger waves and send him in to shore.

At the end of the day we went back to the hotel to clean up and warm up. Burgers and shakes at the In-N-Out next to our hotel for dinner. We had to eat there at least once on our California trip!

We tried to go back to Belmont Park to play laser tag again, but our pass didn't work after 5:30 for some reason. Gid was super bummed out. The boys were enjoying listening to Harry Potter so much that they didn't mind the pointless drive.

So we watched Forged in Fire, one of the boys favorite programs on the History channel. It's a knife making competition. I slept great thanks for the night time cold medicine. ;)
