Pebble Beach, the one in AZ

This morning we set off towards Payson to hike to the Fossil Creek waterfall. Then we realized it was more than a 2 hour drive. We pulled off to Pebble Beach along the Salt River instead. It's an area I've seen on a lot of our drives and have always wanted to check out.
Can you see why it's called pebble beach?
There were so many dragonflies! Orange, blue, red, yellow, navy blue striped, brown. They were so fun to watch.

Gideon lost a tooth at school yesterday! He actually had a split tooth, so now he looks like he has the right amount. ;)
Owen found a heart-shaped green rock. He was the first to get his shoes off and start collecting treasures. He got the other boys into the water eventually. :) They found a lot of snails too!

Skipping rocks with Dave. He's really good at it. I get about one skip and he gets like 7.

Owen found a crawfish. The claws at least.
And a frog in the mud too!
Can you spot him? They are camouflaged so well!

Gidders found a little dead fishy.
Owen getting carried away with the current!

 So zen. ;)

There were a lot of turkey vultures hanging around in the trees. The boys found a few feathers to add to the collection, but they had to wade to the other side where the birds were to gather them. Next time we go we'll stop at Big5 or Walmart to buy water shoes because those rocks hurt!

Luke was sweet to keep Gid close and help him cross the river.

 Our collection log!
 Gideon found the Elder Wand!

Lots of kayakers floated by. It made me want some for our family! We've wanted them for a while. Maybe Christmas this year??? Anyway, several of the people mentioned horses, but we couldn't see them from where we were. So I went for a walk to see what they were talking about. And there were 4 wild horses, just eating river plants and cooling off in the water. I've been wanting to see them, so I was pretty excited. :)

This last dragonfly was guarding our car. :) I was surprised how close he let me get.
