Sedona Summer Day 3: Church, Cable, & Soldier's Pass Hike

Up early and going after that hot chocolate. :) It was a hike to get there.

Owen helping me identify the plants. He said these were lady slippers.

Found it. Most days we had to ask for the packets because we cleaned them out. They each had their own way of making it by adding tons of creamer and sugar.

We went to church later in the morning. The boys were all nervous to go to a different building. They've never visited another ward... I think we need to do that more often! It was such a tiny ward with only 2 primary classes, but the people there were fun. After church we had some lunch. Dave took a nap and the boys just wanted to watch cartoons. I was a little frustrated that we were in beautiful Sedona and locked indoors with the curtains drawn just watching tv. So I walked around Telaquepaque for an hour on my own and visited several art galleries that I probably would have skipped otherwise.

When I got home I talked the boys into doing a hike. Several trails were closing at 5pm, so we found one called Soldier Pass that was open until 6pm. It turned out being my favorite of the trip!

Big old sinkhole. Yikes!

I read that the cactus flower only blooms for a few hours and then it dies. There were bees in every flower I peeked into. This little guys was rolling in all that pollen. It must be a real treat for them!

There goes Owen up another tree! He came down covered in sticky sap!

Leave it to Owen to find a frog in the desert. He's a happy little guy!

So this spot is called the 7 Pools and they are always full of water. I think if we had been hiking in early spring the water would have been fresher from the snow runoff. This water was pretty stagnant, but the boys found baby frogs and a snake!

We thought the snake was stuck so Dave to the rescue, but turns out it wanted to be in there. Points for trying.

This part of the hike was my favorite. It felt like we were walking through the Australian outback!

What started out as a rough day, ended beautifully. :)
