Outside is Where Its At

Yesterday Owen ran down to the neighbor's house and asked him to play. He came over and found frogs and bugs with the boys until his dad came to get him. Then a few hours later he was knocking at our door to play more. :) He had seen our wooden train track and he wanted to play with it. So we brought it outside and made a big track that kept them busy for about 3 hours. :) It was sprinkling a little bit, so Owen was covering people up with the umbrella. Our neighbor across the street came over too, with her little 11month old, Graham. :) Lots of boys in this neighborhood!
Owen rummaged through the recycle bin for a container for the 2 slugs he found. A strawberry jelly jar did the trick.
 Sweet handsome boy.

Once Dave started mowing the lawn in the back, Luke rushed to the "corn" (aka weeds in the backyard) and picked a few to study. :) He's got such a scientific brain and i love it. Maybe all little kids have scientific discovery brains. Anyway, he went through the recycle bin we have and found the perfect planter in a Pringles canister! He wants to bring it into his room, but i'm a little wary of what creepy crawlies might be hiding in those leaves.
We haven't been on many bike rides, can you tell? That's ivy creeping up my tires.
Gideon helped Dad mow the lawn. In this picture he was showing me something and when he heard the lawnmower come to life he jumped up and ran!

So here's the story with our lawnmower. Dave ran over a little metal drain cover last month and it bent the blade and broke the crank shaft. So we took it into get repaired... a MONTH ago. It took them forever to fix it! Every time we called they would tell us, "oh, next week." "in a few days".... right. Anyway, we borrowed the neighbor's mower once. It's pretty old, so we didn't want to ask again. Then it's been pouring rain. We had 17.83"of rain in May and June, making it the 2nd wettest Spring on record since 1915. Crazay. That being said, you can imagine how out of control our grass was getting.

Anyway, we kept expecting our mower to be done, so we didn't ask to borrow a mower again until yesterday when i had just had it with our scruffy lawn! I swear, it was like 18" tall. So my sweet neighbor brought her old mower over and within 4 rows, I had killed it. Craaaaaaap. I pulled chunks of grass out of the mower and walked it back home to tell Farrah what I'd done. She is just too nice and told me it's old and not to worry. Um no! I just broke your lawnmower! I'm going to pay for the fix! No, no she says. It was Evan's dad's anyway, it's fine. That's even worse!! It was his dad's?! Sentimental value?!  Ugh. So i tipped it back to see underneath and the blade is wacky now. When i tipped it up right i saw a puddle of gas in her driveway that had spilled out. SO NOW I'M DUMPING GASOLINE ALL OVER YOUR PROPERTY!? I'm just going home now.

I was full of "irritated adrenaline". Anyone else get that?! So worked up you can't hold still? Well, I decided to WEED WACK our front yard to save all other lawnmowers that dared attempt to cut it! I got a lot of weird looks from people driving by. Whatever. So 2 1/2 hours later I had given the front lawn a really bad haircut. Raked the front yard to clean up all the trimmings. Swept the sidewalk and driveway because they were covered in grass. And bagged the grass. All with the help of my little "helpers". It was awesome. I should have just waited because our lawnmower was finished the next day and it's a Honda which means it lives forever and can do anything. Dave cut the rest of the grass without a problem. Sometimes I get impulses...The End.
